Simply Sheera!

The simply delicious Sheera, the Indian pudding, is usually prepared as prasadam for Pujas like Sathyanarayan. Now you don’t have to wait for yet another religious function to savor some. Here’s a step-by- step recipe to make that simply Sheera whenever you want.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Cream of Wheat (Rava/Sujii/Semolina) – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup
  • Warm Milk – ½ – 1 cup
  • Clarified Butter (Ghee) – 2-4 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
  • Chopped ripe Banana – 1
  • Chopped mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, raisins, walnuts) – a handful of it

METHOD:

  • Take a thick-bottom vessel or kadai and heat 1 tsp ghee. When it starts smoking, add the chopped nuts and fry for some time. Take them out and keep aside. You can drain in paper towel if you want.
  • In the same kadai, pour some more ghee. Let it heat for a while, then add Suji and sauté on low flame for around 15 minutes until fragrant and golden brown.
  • Add sugar and keep stirring for around 10 minutes or till the particles dissolves. Add the chopped nuts. Throw in your banana slices and smash them. Mix it well with the Suji.
  • Put milk (remember to warm the milk) and cardamom powder. Cook on low flame till the milk is absorbed. You may have to keep stirring to avoid Suji from sticking to the bottom of your vessel, and till the pudding turns thick. The entire process takes around 30 minutes.
  • Serve warm. Eat some. Share some!

Yield: 2 servings
