The Warmth of Winter!

Winter is a very private season,
for suddenly everything’s quiet and settled.
Everyone’s drawn inside, inside to their humble abode
to ponder upon the doings of the summer
and to plan things of the next year.

Winter is brief and sudden
but when it comes, brings along many a message
It is in the darkness of Winter, we find light and
hope to take us forward.
It is in the adversity of the season, we learn to appreciate
things of the summer
and in its coldness, we find warmth in our family and friends.

Winter is a beautiful break
when our aimless wanderings come to a cease
when the greed in us goes for a slumber
Instead of a holiday abroad, we buy a ticket for home
and it is in this cold time of the year, we realize life isn’t all roses.
Winter is a change, that brings about many a change
Maybe, Winter, is indispensable
for without it, we would take life for granted and
assume life is infallible.

Winter is a lover’s month
of holding hands and taking a walk
of sitting by the fire,
and professing how much you love and admire,
of stirring love in thy whiskey
and drinking to your heart’s content
Oh! Winter’s a bitch, and she bites on to the lonely soul
for when the cold winds knocks by, the heart but aches
for a lassie to curl upto!
Of short days and long evenings,
Winter is indeed the end to old beginnings
When you take all those warm memories of the year
and hibernate, migrate or disappear.

Little things to do, and more things to think
Take pleasure in that cuppa hot chocolate or a bowl of warm soup
and what else but view life from inside your blanket,
and wonder,
the kiss of the rains and the fury of the storm,
the howl of the wind and the glow of the snow
Wait for the three month sabbatical to end
and watch how the Winter unfurls and the spring breaks!

@ Soumi – I’m glad you liked it. I wanted the poem to have a casual feel and let it fall on its own, rather than rhyming and structuring it. But thanks for the suggestion, I do need your attention on my future poems. 🙂 I was feeling nostagic too when I was writing it.

@ Roh – Thanks Roh! Wanted to focus on the positivity of Winters rather than treat it as some ‘oh it’s there again’ season.
