Color me happy

Red is love
Hidden in blushing cheeks and loving kisses.
Red is sanctity
The ultimate color of an Indian bride’s wedding.
Red is rage
The shade on Durga Ma’s eyes when the world fights.

Yellow is bravery
Standing proud in a Rajput’s drapery.
Yellow is sacred
Sitting quiet on Lord Ganpati’s forehead.
Yellow is the color of Indian cooking
Telling tales of scrumptious foods and fingers licking.

Green is new beginnings
Of clanging bangles and newborn saplings.
Green is fertile lands
The place where world hunger ends.
Green is envy
It is the feeling that causes trouble between me and my enemy.

White is peace
The calm thing running inside every piece.
But white is also sorrow
The hollow and burden of the new widow.
White is cool
Of beautiful cotton saris and soothing rabris.

Black is devil
The weapon used to ward off the evil.
Black is gloomy too,
When grey skies talk and lonely nights scream.
Black is blind
The love that keeps lovers in close bind.

Blue is tranquility
Flowing abound in the waters of Ganga and Yamuna.
Blue is purification
A victory against the poison of our dangerous minds.
Blue is harmony
The united color of a billion people living in the country.

May this Holi color you happy. Happy Holi!
