If you’re considering renewing your gym membership, think again. Treadmill and elliptical, though are effective fat burners, they are a tad outdated. Even favorites like Pilates and Stability ball are now off the list. The last few years have brought about a sea of change in the fitness industry. It is constantly introducing new concepts and innovating new workout methods, and giving you options like never before. With such a vast array of fitness programs to choose from, losing weight has never been so easy, exciting and effective!
These are some hot picks that both celebrities and commoners swear by, and going by the current craze, it looks like they are here to stay for a long time.
1 ZUMBA
The world is doing Zumba, are you too? This high-energy, Columbian dance program was conceived by Alberto “Beto” Perez during the 1990s. Zumba combines dance styles like salsa, hip-hop, jive and samba along with aerobics and are taught by licensed instructors. Zumba is so fun that when you’re dancing to the fast-paced music and vigorous choreography, you don’t feel you’re exercising! Most certainly don’t realize you’re actually losing 500-800 calories in just an hour!
2 HOT YOGA
As the name suggests, Hot Yoga is yoga performed in a heated room as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Often associated with the styles and postures conceived by Bikram Choudhury, the genius behind Bikram Yoga, Hot Yoga does wonders to your mind, body and soul. It helps you sweat out toxins, increase your flexibility and induce a sense of well- being. A 90-minute Bikram yoga can burn 500-1500 calories! No wonder after a Hot Yoga session, they say, you feel liberated!
3 BOLLYWOOD DANCING
Bollywood dancing is a hard-core workout and a massive calorie burner without being monotonous and tedious. People who are bored with their exercise regime are turning to Bollywood dance studios for a more fun, energetic and doing-it-with-others workout. The exciting dance moves and peppy songs are fun-filled, and when you move around, you forget that you’re actually trying to lose weight! So, all you fitness freaks, dance your way to wellness and keep in shape the fun way.
4 SPINNING
Spinning gives you all. A personal trainer to encourage you as you go, a room full of excited people, fabulous music to entertain you, and most rewarding of all – it helps you burn around 700-800 calories in an hour! Spinning is pedaling on stationary bike that can be altered to replicate riding uphill and across different terrains, and gives you the experience of riding outside. Shelling out $15-$20 per class, two to three times a week, could be the best value you ever got for your money!
5 RUNNING
Go back to basics, because what was a hot trend once has become even hotter! With more and more people taking to parks and running like never before, you don’t want to be left behind! Also, with so many companies manufacturing shoes for running, you now have a pretty, good reason to buy a pair and run in them. Barefoot running, yes, running without shoes or running in special footwear like Vibram FiveFingers that creates an illusion of running barefoot is also an emerging trend.
If you’ve always wondered about the secret to those hot bods that you see walking around, now you know how they do it!
Zumba is my secret. 🙂 I love it!
I find stretching relaxing. I ain’t an exercise freak but I stretch for 5-10 minutes everyday in the morning just to get that burst of energy to start my day. That barefoot running is crazy and when I see somebody run without their shoes I wonder isn’t it painful or is it worth or is it just a fad….
Hot Yoga…this is really a new concept for me, never heard before.
@ Anita – In US, it is popular…I know people who do it, and tell me that it feels absolutely good after that one hour or 90 minute session.
And then there is belly dancing too.. very popular these days especially among women who aspire to have a flat ab. Zumba, I heard is like really, really good for people who like-to-have-fun while exercising.
@ Roh – Belly dancing…oh yes! I go for Zumba class, one hour, once a week, and it’s so fun. The entire room is full of energetic people and there is fantastic music playing and you have an instructor guiding you through. You have done aerobics before so I am sure you will enjoy Zumba too.
